Here I am! Powerful, intense, and most of all, badass! This opening will remind you of these words as you bang your head to it. With awesome chords and fist-pumping beats, this opening had me replaying it over and over again when I first stumbled upon it on YouTube.

Whenever this song comes up in my playlist, it always manages to get me pumped up. It blends both the feeling of hope and despair well, mostly despair into a chaotic cocktail of crazy.

While some parts of the visuals were a bit lackluster in terms of animation, the rest of it especially the beginning were nothing short of breathtaking.

I gotta be honest here. However, as I listened to it again while indulging in its lyrics and emotions, I began to appreciate this song as it is.

If you somehow avoided this opening because of the hype surrounding it, do yourself a favor and give this opening a chance like I did.

Trust me, you will not regret it. Alright everyone! The very beginning sequence of this opening will make you cry from both happiness and sadness with its entrancing visuals and melodies.

Clannad After Story is a direct sequel to Clannad. The general theme for After Story is about growing up and the transition from the carefree life of a teenager to the hardships and struggles of the adult life.

Spice and Wolf is a show about a man who meets a wolf harvest goddess and then takes said goddess on a journey with him around the world or at least the continent.

What follows after that, you ask? Maybe a grand adventure? A war deciding the fate of mankind? This show basically focuses around our two main characters, a trader named Lawrence and the wolf goddess Horo.

The series showcases their daily struggles that come with trading as well as a bit of romance sprinkled in between them.

Which is great as both of them are excellently written characters and their romantic development is believable.

The reason I chose this opening over the song for season 1 is because I feel this one captures the sense of the journey better in both visuals and sound although the opening for season 1 is still great in its own right.

What more is there to life other than money, love, and traveling? You knew this opening would make it on the list. This one topples all of the future openings of this show.

All hail Lelouch! Neon Genesis Evangelion. Famous or infamous? Personally, I neither loved nor hated it.

It was an…interesting show, to say the least. What made me keep watching the next episode was definitely the opening.

The upbeat tone is kind of contradictory to the mostly dark and depressing themes of the show itself but the lyrics tell you everything you need to know about the series.

Help improve our database by adding a voice acting role here. And this is only one of the show's strange openings.

Dantalian no Shoka opening For its ending theme, Dantalian no Shoka ditches the pretty Victorian-setting animation, and goes full weird.

The ending shows an old-style black and white live action film of a girl in a strange outfit dragging a truck through a forest of trees, growth, and -- for some reason -- keys.

The film puts together carnival themes, and shows strange flip-book shots of some creepy masks, marionettes, what appears to be a demonic carousel, and other images that create an unsettling feeling.

All of this is set to the sound of a clear-voiced woman singing to violin music, which ends in a girl's whisper and an unexpected rock riff. It all feels like something you'd watch at an indie avant-garde film exhibition, not at the end of an anime.

Aku no Hana Just try listening to that ending theme without getting goosebumps. More word art than song, this poem-like ending theme tells the story of a flower that has freshly bloomed… told with a demonic undertone.

The music is minimal, and the words themselves are performed in a halting, eerie way that puts your hairs on end. Vampire Knight In this anime ending, Kanon puts her amazing cello skills to great use.

The beautiful and deep cello music, combined with the carnival-like music played over it, and Kanon's great vocals create a wonderfully unsettling atmosphere.

The image of a lifeless doll-like character, and the subsequent dancing scene also add plenty of unease to the ending. Madoka Magica ending theme If you've gotten to the end of even one episode of Madoka Magica , you know this is not your ordinary magical girl anime.

Despite this, the ending still manages to leave a mark. Colored flickering silhouettes are shown as Madoka walks past her friends, runs into darkness, and appears in the middle of an eye.

If you listen to the song, the lyrics only add to the tone, speaking of the power to save the world by waking up from your dream.

If there ever was a fitting way to see out an episode of Madoka Magica , this is it. All Tags Trending Tags. Hide Ads Login Sign Up.

So here's a brief list of some of the honorable mentions. Anime Openings

I have spit the list into a number of parts to gain a little tension effect so for this post, here is to 81 in the Top Greatest Anime Openings of All Time!

Just sliding in at number is this OP right here. I actually quite like this song; it is also in my anime song collection. This song is abslutely EPIC!!

A great opening fit for a great anime. Ah… the good old days. But all in all, this opening is just a feel good, chill-out rock song that you can sing along to at an casual time.

Or, perhaps his OP is just good in its own right. The singer of this opening has such a perfect voice for this track, and it really makes you want to sing along I know I do.

Also, this is another great series so check it out. But I will admit that this opening is quite catchy and fits the Gundam series quite well.

The only problem I ever had with the Gundam openings was the fact that all the sound effects of the robots fighting would be playing while the opening is going on, thus unable to hear the opening song clearly.

Never figured out why they do that. Never figured out why nobody complained either. And that goes for their openings as well. Naruto OP 3 is personally not my favourite, but I think 95th place is a fairly accurate placement for this opening.

I have never watched, nor heard, of this particular series until I started to receive votes for this opening. The synopsis to the story also read, and it seems pretty damn good.

Because just from the opening, it looks pretty good. But I had a listen to this opening and I must say that it is pretty catchy. Although not my favourite Gundam song, I can see why people would enjoy this song.

Also, who can not like T. But still, I know of his series and I have always liked the openings of this series. The songs are cute and fit the story and overall feel of the series very well.

Full Metal Panic! Amazing, I know. But other than that, I actually quite like this opening song. Very catchy. The overall opening animation is also nice and fits the song very well.

But I do believe that the first opening was the best for a number of reasons. Also, the song itself is just cuter and better.

If you think different, comment below. Oh look! Another T. Revolution song! And within this post too! Just goes to show how much T.

Revolution songs are being loved b the anime community. But I have to admit, this opening is just so much better than the other one.

For one thing, Soul Eater was an awesome series. And secondly, the animation that goes with the song is just great. So I personally rank this one higher and so does the anime community I see….

Kyou Kara Maou! Even without listening to the words, the sound of the music fits in with the overall tone of the anime. The intro shows staticky images of Lain watching people through computer and TV screens, walking through real life photos, and walking through a eerily abandoned city where time seems frozen still.

Paranoia Agent What could possibly be creepy about people smiling? Paranoia Agent turns something benign into a creep-fest with its unsettling parade of laughing faces.

Just standing in odd locations, laughing. The song choice is not exactly normal either - but then again, when has Satoshi Kon done anything "normal"?

Ergo Proxy opening Psychological anime like to mess with your head right off the bat. Ergo Proxy does this wonderfully, opening with some strange mashups and imagery set to English soft rock vocals.

The images that flash during the opening mix live photography with symbolic shots, combined with grunge overlays. It's dark and choppy, and leaves you feeling like something just happened that was bigger than you realize.

Monster anime opening Monster is a one-of-a-kind psychological horror anime that probably needs no introduction. Its opening places you in the protagonist's shoes, showing his state of mind and making you feel like maybe you should always be looking over your shoulder.

Like the anime itself, the opening is slow-paced and seemingly not much happens, but it's impressively tense for something that's just under a minute and a half.

The final images play with point of view shots, and prime your mind for whatever psychological horror is coming up in the episode. The ending deserves a mention here too, for its haunting English vocals and the art: a child's drawing that evolves over the episodes to tell a story.

Hearing that song begin after the horrors of whatever episode you just watched never fails to be unsettling. Phantom Requiem for the phantom opening In this opening, the protagonist wanders around, over, and upside down through a background that's a trippy kaleidoscope of shapes and colors that combine to form images of the show's characters.

It might not have made it on this list if it weren't for the music: a haunting song about karma and the feeling that your life is going through a loop of doing the same things again and again -- and ending with a plea for karma to end this repetitive life with its own hands.

Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei opening Many of the anime that have creepy openings are from the horror or thriller genre.

Zetsubou Sensei is neither of these -- it's a cultural satire told through a slice of life full of dark humor -- but the openings never fail to disturb.

In this version of the opening, we're presented with a very distinct and weird style, a seemingly absurd song, and some creepy staring girls. It also manages to have nearly nothing to do with the actual anime.
