A black comedy based on true events it was great to see a gangster movie on this level and id recommend it. Only drawback it could have more content more story.
A compelling crime dramedy that benefits from solid direction and an extremely strong cast. Rob The Mob is based on the true story of Tommy and Rosie, lovers in need of some cash who decide to star robbing Mafia social clubs all throughout New York in the early 90's.
It's a cool idea, and it was nice to see a departure from a conventional gangster plot. Michael Pitt and Nina Arianda are our stars, and they're easily the best part of the movie.
They give their all to these performances, as charming, quirky losers who love each other more than anything in the world.
This is an entertaining enough biopic. A tale of two doomed lovers has rarely recently been told so eloquently.
After being released from prison, Tommy goes back home to Queen's, to the girl who has been waiting for him throughout his incarceration.
Rosie has got a job and got on with her life, just waiting for her true love to return to her. Tommy's first thought is for Rosie and the new life they can begin together, now that he is free.
This movie was almost too mediocre to bother doing a writeup for at all, which is exactly what should be expected from trawling the "newly added" section of Amazon Prime Video.

Nina Arianda is probably the star here. I didn't realize that I've already seen her a bunch of times in supporting roles.
The moments of genuine hilarity come out of nowhere, unforced. I love mob movies that were based on a true story. Also, the running time on this wasn't too bad either.
Ray Romano was a journalist in this flick. Offbeat crime drama Rob the Mob hits just the right semi-comic tone to pull off its outlandish, stranger-than-fiction true story.
You get a feel for the characters as they present people who are trying to do right by doing wrong. The outtake of the story was engaging and suspenseful.
Rob the Mob is an inconsistent film with two flawed stories stitched together. One is the tale of two thieves who have all the fun moments in the film.
At times you root for them, at times question how their stupidity hasn't already got them killed. The second story is that of the mob, in which they bumble about doing next to nothing.
Garcia is absolutely gripping, even if he was paired with a middling script. Arianda has charm, Pitt so much less so. A mediocre film, with good moments.
For a film with a relatively low production value and without much of a reputation, I thoroughly enjoyed watching Rob the Mob.
Perhaps having no premeditated ideas of what it'd be like was a large advantage as the shitty poster and name would suggest smome sort of coemdy but instead the film a gangster film with clear Scorsese influences in the mix.
It balances comedy quite well as its not devoid of funny moments but it is mostly a serious true tale. Mainly survives off of the likability and chemistry between the two leads of Michael Pitt and Nina Arianda, who are both excellent and I found myself genuinely caring about their story.
Stop casting Andy Garcia in stereotypical Italian mob family boss or some sort of Mexican drug lord type! Surprised by how goddamn good this is.

In the wallet, Tommy and Rosie discover a list of the entire mafia organization, including names, ranks, phone numbers, and addresses. They decide to warn the mafia that they have the list, because they feel it is insurance against retribution.
Rosie even calls Big Al at home to warn him that they have the list. Big Al is furious at Sal, who explains that Joey D had the list because Sal thought no one would think such an old man had such an important piece of evidence.
The list is essentially a phone tree, meant to function as a pass by mobsters who get arrested. The mobster under arrest calls the guy with the list to signal he will not be cooperating with authorities, and the guy with the list notifies everyone on it so that they can know the authorities are bluffing if they say that the arrested mobster has turned into an informant.
The FBI has always wanted such a document because it undermines the standard mafia defense that they are not a real organization. Big Al summons everyone to a meeting and puts out a contract on Tommy and Rosie, who have become known as "Bonnie and Clyde".
Meanwhile, Rosie calls Cardozo to complain that he has underreported the number of clubs that they robbed. She sets up an interview with Cardozo, and after initially protesting, Tommy joins her in talking to Cardozo.
His profile of the couple only humiliates the mafia further, but it draws far too much attention to Tommy and Rosie. After reading the article, Lovell warns Rosie about the danger she is in.
One day when Sal is driving through the neighborhood, he nearly runs into Tommy and Rosie, who he recognizes because of their car.
He follows them to their apartment, and he is stunned to find they live 3 blocks from the first club they robbed.
He tells his underlings where they live, and orders them to kill them. Cardozo is outraged to learn that the FBI will not give Tommy and Rosie any protection for the role that they played in the investigation.
Cardozo tries to give airline tickets to Mexico to Tommy and Rosie. He warns them that they are in way over their heads.
Tommy and Rosie claim they have a plan. At the end of their day, they are ambushed in their car and killed.
